Playing a DVD on your HP laptop is easy. Virtually all of HP's private laptops come equipped with DVD ROM drives. Current versions of Windows, such as XP, Vista and Windows 7, are developed to recognize and play DVD video content material automatically. When content is recognized, you happen to be prompted with alternatives for the disc, like playing the content material, which enables the computer to locate and begin the default player for you.
Instructions

1. Verify that your laptop features a DVD ROM drive installed. You can do that by viewing the system information in Windows, by consulting your method documentation, or often by searching in the outside on the drive itself. Most systems have DVD drives installed, but on rare instances you could only have a CD burner. If that's the case, you will need to install a DVD ROM drive before continuing.

2. Insert your DVD into the drive, and close the drive securely. Windows will study the disc you inserted and prompt you with options to continue.

3. Pick the selection to play the DVD video. This will launch the default DVD player application and open the menu. From there you are able to play the DVD, view bonus content material or unique functions, choose a particular chapter or configure options.
