1. Download the latest drivers for your printer by going to the HP Software & Driver Downloads webpage (see Resources). Enter in “HP Laserjet 4000” in the search box to locate your printer drivers.

2. Click on the printer driver when it appears on the screen. When the dialog box pops up select “Run this Program from Its Current Location” to configure your printer. If you have WinZip installed on your personal computer you may get a message about unzipping the driver file, if so click “Unzip.” Either way, the driver file will save to your pc to be configured.

3. Go to “Start” and click “Control Panel” to bring up the Control Panel icons. Then click on “Printers and Other Hardware” and then “Printers and Faxes.”

4. Double click on “Add Printer.” When the printer wizard screen appears click “Next” to proceed. Click on “Local Printer” and then remove the check mark from “Automatically detect and install.” Click “Next” to continue. On the next screen click “Create a new port” and then you need to click on “Local Port.”

5. Type the network path to your printer in the “Port Name” box. The path will include the server name and the printer name, such as “\\\\myserver\\myprinter” for the path name. In the event you do not know this information you need to ask your computer support person for help. Click “Next” when you are done.

6. Select “Have Disk” when the screen appears that asks for the manufacturer of the printer. Click “Browse” to locate the printer driver that you just downloaded to your computer. Once you locate it and select it click on “Open.” Click “Next” to get for the next screen to follow the directions and complete the configuration.
